This webinar, entitled "Non-traditional Learning Pathways and Their Recognition: the cases of the Republic of Korea and Japan," will be co-hosted by NIC-Japan and the Korea Academic Recognition Information Center (KARIC), the National Information Center (NIC) of the Republic of Korea.

This webinar series aims to explore how national systems can better support recognition of qualifications for lifelong learning, skills development, and employment to serve national development goals. In 2025, three webinars were organized, led by New Zealand, Japan, and Australia, respectively. In June 2026, China led a webinar on digitalization and AI applications in higher education.

This fifth session will feature presentations by Professor Rie Mori, Director of NIC-Japan, and Ms. JungEun Lee, Director of KARIC. The session will share insights and facilitate discussions on the following two main topics:

  • Sharing trends in Japan and the Republic of Korea on higher education conducted through non-traditional learning modes and recognizing non-traditional learning conducted in foreign countries;
  • Discussing how countries in the Asia-Pacific can collaborate to promote recognition of learning conducted through non-traditional learning modes to support academic mobility and access to further studies and employment.
