According to this Guideline, HEIs include “universities, graduate schools, junior colleges, Colleges of Technology, and Professional Training Colleges (except for Prefectural Colleges of Agriculture) as well as National College of Nursing, Japan, Polytechnic University, and National Fisheries University amongst educational institutions operated by government ministries and agencies”. Tips for Searching

  • If the name of the institution may not be current, please use keyword search here.
  • If you cannot find the institution, please make sure that you have not selected any irrelevant items in "Type of Institution" or "Types of Qualification" or "Location". Settings from your previous search may still remain.
  • The list does not cover all information on abolishment and name changes.
  • Prefectures are listed in order of prefecture codes [Japanese only] (generally from north-east to south-west) in the "Location" pull-down menu.
  • When there are more than 2 institutions for English search results, they are listed in the following order:
    1. English name is blank
    2. English name starts with symbols or numbers (e.g. (abolished))
    3. English name starts with alphabetical letters
