The National Information Center for Academic Recognition Japan (NIC-Japan) held an online seminar entitled "Malaysian Education System and Higher Education Qualifications" on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

As part of its activities to provide information that contributes to the smooth recognition of higher education qualifications for the purpose of improving the international mobility of students and academics, NIC-Japan has been holding the "NIC-Japan Seminar Series" since 2021, in which experts from Japan and overseas discuss various topics related to recognition of foreign qualifications, such as examples of such qualifications and education systems.

The third seminar in 2023 was held on the topic of Malaysian education system and higher education qualifications. The lecture was given by Professor Ir. Dr. Khairul Salleh bin Mohamed Sahari, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Quality Assurance) of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The seminar was attended by approximately 170 participants, mainly faculty and staff members involved in admissions and international affairs at universities and other institutions.

At the beginning of the event, Professor MORI Rie, the Executive Director of NIC-Japan gave an opening address with expressions of gratitude toward the lecturer and the expectations for the seminar.

In the lecture, there were comprehensive explanations including the overview of Malaysian education system, university admission system called "UPU," accreditations conducted by MQA and equivalency evaluation of foreign educational qualifications. He also spoke about the system to connect micro-credentials and degree programs, and the circumstances of transnational education (TNE) in Malaysia.

The lecture was followed by Q&A session, which lively interactions done between participants and lecture, and the event ended on a high note.
