 Report: NIC-Japan seminar on "Taiwan's Education System and Higher Education Qualifications"

Activities

The National Information Center for Academic Recognition Japan (NIC-Japan) held an online seminar entitled "Taiwan's Education System and Higher Education Qualifications" on July 11, 2022 (Monday).

As part of its activities to provide information that contributes to the smooth recognition of higher education qualifications for the purpose of improving the international mobility of students and academics, NIC-Japan has been holding the "NIC-Japan Seminar Series" since FY2021, in which experts from Japan and overseas discuss various topics related to recognition of foreign qualifications, such as examples of such qualifications and education systems.

The first seminar for FY2022 was held on the topic of Taiwan's education system. The lecture was given by Wu-hsun Yang, Ph.D., Professor of the National Chi Nan University, who specializes in higher education, university internationalization, quality assurance, etc. The seminar was attended by more than 130 participants, mainly faculty and staff members involved in international affairs at universities and other institutions.

At the beginning of the event, Prof. MORI Rie, the Executive Director of NIC-Japan gave an opening address with expressions of gratitude toward the lecturer and the expectations for the seminar.

At the lecture, Professor Yang gave an overview of Taiwan's education system as well as a detailed explanation of the entrance examination system for higher education, including the types of examinations and the "E-portfolio" system, which is used to accumulate students' learning history that would be utilized for admission selection. In addition, he gave a comprehensive explanation on various topics, such as university accreditation, internationalization of universities and recognition of foreign academic qualifications. After the lecture, Q&A session was held which lively interactions done between participants and lecture.

The seminar was held successfully, concluding with a special gratitude to the lecturer for his thought-provoking lecture and the Q&A session from Dr. HOTTA Taiji, Senior Advisor of NIC-Japan, who served as the moderator.
