NIC-Japan has participated in the UK ENIC conference continuously and in 2020 and 2021, when the conference was held online owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, presented video sessions to introduce the activities of NIC-Japan established under the Tokyo Convention, as well as the Japanese higher education system and qualifications. In 2023, NIC-Japan participated in the face-to-face conference for the first time in four years.

The conference featured 50 sessions, including two plenary sessions. Plenary session topics focused on the visions and nature of higher education institutions heading for the 2030s. Other sessions addressed the recognition of vocational qualifications and the Indian higher education system following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on mutual academic qualification recognition between the UK and India. Additional topics included AI and ChatGPT, which have emerged as significant concerns in qualification recognition, and the challenges of educational fraud. The conference also facilitated information exchange and vigorous discussion on various subjects, such as educational information on countries and regions sending large numbers of refugees to the UK, including Ukraine, and cross-border education.
