Authenticity Check
Assessment of Admission Qualifications (in general)
Q:I have heard that a fake certificate can be purchased online. How can I ensure that a certificate we receive from an applicant is trustable?
A:Fake certificates and diplomas have become a world-wide problem.
Measures an institution can take to verify the authenticity of a certificate include;
- to ask the issuing institution to send a certificate in a sealed envelope directly to your institution,
- to ask the issuing institution to send digital data directly to your institution,
- to verify the information in the certificate directly to the issuing institution (not via the applicant), and
- to use a database run by the issuing institution or another party such as the government to verify the information in the certificate.
Also, there are a number of information resources openly available to combat fraudulent documents.
