Q：I have heard that a fake certificate can be purchased online. How can I ensure that a certificate we receive from an applicant is trustable?

A：Fake certificates and diplomas have become a world-wide problem.

Measures an institution can take to verify the authenticity of a certificate include;

1. to ask the issuing institution to send a certificate in a sealed envelope directly to your institution,
2. to ask the issuing institution to send digital data directly to your institution,
3. to verify the information in the certificate directly to the issuing institution (not via the applicant), and
4. to use a database run by the issuing institution or another party such as the government to verify the information in the certificate.

Also, there are a number of information resources openly available to combat fraudulent documents.
