The National Information Center for Academic Recognition Japan (NIC-Japan) held an online seminar entitled "Chinese Education System and Higher Education Qualifications" on December 19, 2022 (Monday).

As part of its activities to provide information that contributes to the smooth recognition of higher education qualifications for the purpose of improving the international mobility of students and academics, NIC-Japan has been holding the "NIC-Japan Seminar Series" since FY2021, in which experts from Japan and overseas discuss various topics related to recognition of foreign qualifications, such as examples of such qualifications and education systems.

The second seminar for FY2022 was held on the topic of Chinese education system. The lecture was given by Dr. LI Min, Professor of Research Department, National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education (NIAD-QE). The seminar was attended by more than 160 participants, mainly faculty and staff members involved in international affairs and admissions at universities and other institutions.

At the beginning of the event, Prof. MORI Rie, the Executive Director of NIC-Japan gave an opening address with expressions of expectation for the seminar.

At the lecture, Dr. LI gave an overview of diverse Chinese education system, such as double track school education system starting from upper secondary education and continuing adult education system, as well as a detailed explanation on the higher education system including the types of higher education course and examination. In addition, she gave a comprehensive explanation on unique Chinese system, such as "Not all of the university graduates have necessarily been awarded the degree" or "Not all of the universities are able to award degrees".

The lecture was followed by Q&A session, which lively interactions done between participants and lecture, and the event ended on a high note.
